Having a bit of déjà vu of March when we first left on this crazy adventure we headed from New Orleans to Austin. This time we bypassed hanging out in Galveston thanks to Harvey and wanting a couple extra days in New Orleans.
Our 8 hour drive day was made a bit longer by the fact that I lost the keys to the van at Buc-ee’s and it took forever for anyone to turn them in. It was shift change as I was told and that makes things even harder because if someone put them in the lost and found that person is now gone. Of course the dogs were in the van and I was freaking out that they would die as it was warm day even it was late October. Thankfully a manager found them in lost and found box gave us a call to find us still waiting for AAA and we could rescue the dogs and the Old Man could instill a new rule that we both have to leave with keys in our pockets. Between getting locked in Jackson Square and now me losing the keys I am over anything that has to do with locks or keys.
We stayed near downtown this time which was great as I got to run by the capital one morning. I love running in towns because I feel like it gives me a real sense of the town. I loved Austin when I was a kid and I kept that love in my heart until this trip. I don’t know if it is because I have seen so much in the last few months or what, but Austin doesn’t feel the same it did when I was a kid. I miss that old cow town that had nothing but the university and capital. I feel for all the keep Austin weird it looked like a lot of other towns I have seen. Maybe those towns copied Austin which is great I guess. Don’t get me wrong still a great town and the food is yummy, but it is off my maybe could live here list.
The Old Man done parting his wisdom on the Health Care world it was time to head to San Antonio and see the Crazy Lady aka my bio mom. I kept this trip short because in March we were in SA for 5 full days and I almost went insane. Love the woman but you know mother and daughters too much alike so we drive each other crazy.
The Old Man found a cool cigar bar in downtown while mom and I did some errands and just got her out and about the town. I don’t think we did anything exciting as it is sometimes with family, but we did eat well. Between New Orleans and now Texas it will be diet city for a few months.
Next up we are heading up to Oklahoma City, so I can check off Oklahoma and we are still close enough to get us back to DFW to get the Old Man off on his international flight.
